Pode falar um pouco sobre si?
Sempre tive uma mente criativa mas nunca me vi como escritora até ser adulta. Tive imensos empregos enquanto era adolescente e depois de sair do liceu, e acho que todas essas experiências me ajudaram com a minha pesquisa. Já fiz de tudo, desde um polícia que andava de bicicleta passando por um executivo de marketing até uma mascote profissional. Tudo isto me providenciou experiências muito interessantes. Também já vivi em 3 países diferentes e 4 estados nos Estados Unidos.
De onde vêm as suas ideias?
Tenho ideias a partir de tudo, notícias, conversas que oiço, histórias. Para o livro “Lost Daughters of Atlantis” (não publicado em Portugal), tive a ideia quando estava de férias numa ilha. Eu pensei, e se… e então a história desenrolou-se a partir daí.
Identifica-se em alguma das suas personagens? E tem alguma que lhe seja mais querida?
Acredito que há sempre partes de mim em todas as minhas personagens. Enquanto que não sou tal e qual como elas (não consigo respirar debaixo de água), acho que certos aspectos da minha personalidade acabam por sobressair nas suas histórias. Adoro escrever sobre Sky em Atlantis Dark Tides. Ela foi introduzida no romance como vilã. Tive de descobrir como a retirar do lado mau para o bom.
Tem algum hábito “estranho” enquanto escreve?
Começo sempre os meus esboços no tipo de letra Courier e mantenho-os com apenas um de espaçamento. De seguida, quando passo para a fase de edição, duplico o espaçamento. E finalmente, quando estou a fazer a revisão final, mudo o tipo de letra para Times New Roman. Já tentei começar a escrever em Times New Roman, mas parece que me faz hesitar enquanto estou a sonhar com os meus enredos.
Desde que se tornou uma autora publicada, qual foi a coisa mais fantástica e ao mesmo tempo estranha que lhe aconteceu?
Há algumas semanas atrás, conheci um estranho que já tinha ouvido falar de mim. Era uma adolescente de um estado diferente e que estava a visitar uns familiares onde eu vivia. Uma coisa é receber emails de fãs, outras é conhecer em pessoa alguém que me conhece como escritora, o que é fantástico! Eu agi como fã da minha fã!
Que pensa da comunidade bloguer? Acha que de alguma forma ela ajudou quando lançou o seu primeiro livro?
Eu adoro a comunidade bloguer porque eles informam as pessoas dos livros de que gostam, ou não. Eles partilham o seu entusiasmo do seu amor pela leitura. Todos os bloguers com quem já trabalhei foram extremamente profissionais e simpáticos.
E finalmente, tem alguma mensagem para os seus leitores?
Adoro opiniões! A melhor maneira de ajudar um autor é escrevendo uma opinião no seu site próprio ou no GoodReads. Isto ajuda outros leitores a encontrar histórias que adorem.

Could you talk a little bit about yourself?
I’ve always had a creative mind, but never saw myself writing books until I was an adult. I had a lot of jobs as a teen and after college, and I find that all these experiences have helped with my research. I’ve been everything from a bike police officer, to an advertising executive, to a professional mascot escort. All provided interesting experiences. I’ve also lived in 3 countries, and 4 states in the United States.
From where did you get your ideas?
I get ideas from everywhere: news, overheard conversations, history. For the Lost Daughters of Atlantis series I got the idea when I was on vacation on an island. I thought what if… and the story just went on from there.
Do you identify yourself in your characters?
And have you got some character that is special to you? I believe there are pieces of me in all my characters. While I’m not exactly like any of them, (I can’t breathe underwater), I do find that certain aspects of my personality come out in their stories. I loved writing about Sky in Atlantis Dark Tides. She was introduced in the novella as a villain. I had to figure out how to take her from the bad guy to the good.
Do you have any "weird" habits while writing?
I always start my rough drafts in the Courier font and keep it single spaced. Then, when I move to the editing stage I double space. And finally, when I am doing the final proof I switch the type to Times New Roman. I’ve tried to start writing in Times New Roman and it seems to make me hesitate while dreaming up my plots.
Since you became a published author, what was the most amazing and at the same time weird thing that has hapenned to you?
A couple of weeks ago I met a stranger who had actually heard of me. She was a teenager from a different state who was visiting relatives where I live. While I’ve received fan email, to actually meet someone who knew me as a writer first was pretty amazing. I fan-girled on my fan!
What do you think about the bloguers community?
Do you think they were of any help when your first book was released? I love the blogger community because they inform people about books they liked, or didn’t. They share their enthusiastic love of reading. All the bloggers I’ve worked with have been extremely professional and nice.
And finally, do you have any message for your readers?
I love reviews! The best way to help an author is to write a review on the retailer website or Goodreads. This helps other readers find stories they will love.
And, I wanted to let me readers know that the next two stories in the Atlantis series will be released in November and December of 2014! Atlantis Twisting Tides is a short novella and Atlantis Glacial Tides is the next full book. Both stories will feature Adria, Prince Reef’s sister from Atlantis Dark Tides. I’m really excited about these stories and I hope my readers will be too!
